The club record signing was banned for three matches at the start of the season for headbutting an opponent and was given “idiot” advice by an Anfield legend

Liverpool secured their passage into the Champions League knockout rounds this week as summer signing Darwin Nunez played a big part in the dismantling of Ajax on Wednesday.

However, the Uruguayan international has recalled the phone call he had with Luis Suarez following his red card incident at the start of the season, and the “idiot” advice he received. Elsewhere, Jurgen Klopp has avoided a touchline ban for his own antics against Manchester City earlier this month, while Thierry Henry has warned Arsenal over the Reds.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest stories coming out of Anfield.

Darwin Nunez branded “idiot”

Nunez has revealed the advice in which former club legend Suarez gave him during a phone call after the 23-year-old headbutted Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen back in August.

The Reds striker received a three game ban for his actions and following the incident, Suarez said: "From now on they [defenders] are going to look for you two-three times more. This is coming from an idiot that was wrong and had a bad time, but falling down and getting up again made me stronger. Don't give them more chances, it's going to be worse."

But Nunez has since recalled the phone call the two exchanged and praised Suarez’s advice. As quoted by ESPN Uruguay, he said: "It was a good thing [Suarez's advice] because not many bother to pick up the phone and send you a message, I think his gesture was very important to me.”

Jurgen Klopp escapes FA ban

Liverpool manager Klopp has been let off the hook following his abusive actions towards a match official in the 1-0 victory over Man City earlier this month.

The German was caught on camera screaming into the ear of the fourth official after letting his emotions get the better of him during the match, but the FA has deemed that there will be no touchline ban for the Reds boss.

He will, however, receive a £30,000 fine, but he will remain in the dugout for the Reds' Premier League clash with Leeds this weekend after the FA charged him for 'improper conduct'.

Arsenal given Liverpool reminder in title race

Arsenal legend Henry has said that his former side need to look no further than Liverpool as they sit at the top of the Premier League and aim to continue their unexpected title push.

The Gunners are two points clear of closest rivals Man City with three games to play until the international break for the World Cup next month, but Henry has warned the Gunners over getting carried away by their early season form.

The Reds have surpassed 90 points in three of the last five seasons, winning the title on just one occasion, and Henry has claimed the struggles of overpowering Man City must not be forgotten for the Gunners, and they only have to look as far as Liverpool to see that.
