Only a few nations have achieved this feast

Playing in the FIFA World Cup is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for every nation to represent their country in one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events. However, some countries are so accustomed to competing in international football tournaments that they break records and become regulars in the sport.

Brazil, Germany, and Italy, to mention a few, have steamrolled the FIFA World Cup, which is rather astounding. Brazil are the only non-European country to have won the record five times. This is fantastic for such a footballing nation, and in this post, we have highlighted the top six countries with 100 or more World Cup goals.

Spain – 100

Spain are the newest addition to this list, coming off a 7-0 thumping of Costa Rica, which propelled the La Roja to the 100-goal mark in the FIFA World Cup. The European nation have appeared in 16 FIFA World Cups. Including the 2010 triumph in South Africa, and has now set another milestone by scoring 100 goals in World Cups.

They are the first European country to win a FIFA World Cup that was not staged in Europe. And, from 2008 to 2012, they earned FIFA team of the year thrice, the second most by any nation after Brazil.

France – 124

France are one of the most powerful countries, with a strong roster and many World Cup-winning legends. Despite having won the World Cup twice, France are one of the few teams to have scored the most goals in FIFA World Cups.

They have appeared in the FIFA World Cup 15 times, placing them sixth in the world. Their most recent victory came in the 2018 World Cup, where Deschamps joined Franz Beckenbauer and Mario Zagallo as World Cup winners as manager and player.

Italy – 127

Italy are equal with Germany for the most World Cup titles (4), having appeared in the tournament 18 times out of 22 and reached six finals. They are the fourth most prolific goal-scorer in FIFA World Cups. Italy’s last title came in 2006, and they have yet to go past the group stage since.

The country has slipped down the rank after failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup and, more recently, the 2022 World Cup.

Argentina – 138

South America’s second most successful country, having won the World Cup twice, in 1978 and 1986. The South American juggernaut has played in 17 of the 22 FIFA World Cups. Losing three finals in 1930, 1990, and 2014. They are the third most prolific goal-scorer in World Cup history.

From Diego Maradona to Lionel Messi, the country has produced world-class players. They recently won the Copa America and are considered favourites to win the World Cup in 2022.

Brazil – 226

Brazil are the only country to have lifted the World Cup five times and the only country to have appeared in every edition of the comptition. 21 times from 1930 to 2022. Their most recent World Cup victory occurred in 2002 and they are the only South American team to achieve this feat since.

Brazil remains the only country to have never competed in a World Cup play-off and the only country to have won it on four different continents: Europe (1958 Sweden), South America (1962 Chile), North America (1970 Mexico and 1994 United States), and Asia (2002 Korea/Japan).

Germany – 230

Despite being divided between West and East Germany in the past, Germany have been a successful nation in the event. With a great record of converting 25.4% of his shots in the four tournaments he played in. They have four World Cup trophies, the latest of which they won in 2014. Miroslav Klose of Germany is the World Cup’s leading scorer with 16 goals.

They are also the only nation to have scored the most goals in World Cups, having competed in 19 World Cups and remaining a well-established side in football.
